Your life is a creative project.

I’ve been a magazine editor and a museum leader.

I’m now an author and coach who helps kind, ambitious artists, writers, leaders, and changemakers do Big Beautiful Work –– in art, literature, love, and life.

My story

I was born in a “cultural desert”: a southern Chinese port colonised by British opium dealers.

My parents came from England and the Philippines, and I grew up not seeing myself represented in books, TV, or movies.

While living in London I got very, very sick and moved back to Hong Kong, where I recovered in the hospital where I was born.

From there, I re-made my life, made a career writing Asia into global consciousness in publications like TIME and The Wall Street Journal, and helped to build a 21st century museum of visual culture whose mission was to connect Asia to itself.

My contributions to the museum field are featured in a chapter of The Digital Future of Museums: Conversations and Provocations by Keir Winesmith and Suse Anderson (Routledge, 2020).

My contributions to journalism at The Wall Street Journal were recognised with The Scripps Howard Award for Digital Innovation.

I now live in between hills and sea in Kaurna Country (Adelaide, South Australia) with my spouse, two children, and two Hong Kong street cats.

I really, really love crying.

Healthy entanglement.

Susan Sontag said, to be admitted to the pantheon, at some point you need “to choose between the Life and the Project.”

In my culture, we believe you can choose both, because the Life and the Project support and sustain each other.

Sparkly gravitas.

In my culture, we take fun seriously, and we know that joy and pleasure are a birthright.

know that our lives and futures are interdependent.

We believe you can choose both, because the Life and the Project support and sustain each other.

Grounded knowing.

In my culture, self-compassion is a big win; self-comparison is a big no.

Because people in my culture create space for deep listening. We value and cultivate self-trust.

We listen to our inner knowing, the highest source of guidance for the lives only we can lead.

Radical joy.

In my culture, we follow the fun, we celebrate your accomplishments, and focus on what’s working instead of what’s missing.
